Training Programs

  • Session 1 – Introduction and Safety

    Fundamentals of fluid power, Pascal’s Law, hydraulic system safety procedures, safe pressure release using manual control and bleed valves, safely disconnecting hoses from a pressurized system, flow/pressure relationships in hydraulic circuits, PPE and lockout considerations for hydraulic equipment

  • Session 2 – Hydraulic Pumps

    Pump types and construction, gear pumps, vane pumps, piston pumps, pump ratings and displacement, pump efficiency, constructing a basic hydraulic circuit, pump loading and unloading, using an unloading valve to build an external pressure relief function

  • Session 3 – Reservoirs, Fluids, and Contamination

    Reservoir design and components, hydraulic fluid properties and selection, contamination sources and classification, filtration (supply and return filters), sight glass use for level/temperature/oil color/foam inspection, physical oil sampling and inspection, wiring level and temperature circuits into pump control, simulating low-level shutdown conditions

  • Session 4 – Actuators – Cylinders and Motors

    Cylinder types and construction, rod packings and cushioning, cylinder mounting, hydraulic motor types, torque and speed characteristics, demonstrating motor torque with a band brake, valveless cylinder extend/retract and motor forward/reverse circuits

  • Session 5 – Directional Control Valves

    Valve types and spool configurations, solenoid-operated valves, testing solenoids at the terminal strip and coil connector, tandem-center and blocked-center valve circuits, push-button directional control circuits, disassembling a spool valve

  • Session 6 – Flow Control Valves

    Meter-in vs. meter-out control, inline flow control circuits, sandwich flow control valves, check valves, pilot-operated check valves, speed control of cylinders and motors

  • Session 7 – Pressure Control Valves

    Pressure relief valve theory and internal relief operation, adjusting system relief pressure, pressure-reducing valve (PRV) circuits, counterbalance valves, sequence valves and pressure switches, pressure effects on motor current

  • Session 8 – Hydraulic Schematics

    Standard hydraulic symbols, reading and generating schematics from an existing circuit, generating a schematic and building a circuit from a written description, documenting circuit changes

  • Session 9 – Advanced Hydraulic Circuits

    Parallel circuits with cylinder and motor, regenerative circuits, sequence circuits (pressure switch and sequence valve cartridge), dump valve circuits, complex circuits combining multiple hydraulic and electrical components, customer-specific circuit design

  • Session 10 – Troubleshooting Hydraulic Circuits

    Using schematics, gauges, and a DMM to troubleshoot an unfamiliar circuit, identifying and replacing faulted components, troubleshooting clogged supply and return filters, confirming correct operation after repair, systematic troubleshooting procedures
